My classroom is full of students who are emergent bilingual learners. All of my students are learning English. My emergent bilingual learners are either recent arrivals or brand new to the country. My students bring a wide variety of cultures, languages, and experiences to the classroom in order to create a diverse learning environment.
In addition to learning English, my students are expected to expand their knowledge in order to reach the 2nd grade Common Core curriculum state standards.
My school is a small inclusive public school that is part of a large urban district where over 75% received free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
The laminating sheets are essential in an early education classroom. Almost everything we use gets laminated in order for it to last and for it to be used in future years. My students need materials to be durable in order for them to engage without concern with the materials.
Laminated color resources engage my students and allow me to save money!
I laminate all colored resources in my classroom so that I can use them from year to year. However, this can be costly. For example, I laminate picture cards for vocabulary support for my emergent bilingual learners. Additionally, I laminate photographs and pictures that are used in our read alouds and reading centers.
I print task cards, directions, and flashcards on colored card stock as a way to help them last and as an easy organization system. I might make five different sets but print them on different colors so students can keep them organized easily! Again, these are all laminated in order to help them last!
