Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Any opportunity to teach through a hands-on approach is a gift for learning when you are only 6 years old. We spend hours creating, cutting and laminating manipulatives for our students to use every year.
Many of our students are coming from a low socio-economic status but are excited to learn and enthusiastic about school.
They enjoy coming to school! They are happy and engaged in learning when they are here. They want to keep busy and moving as much as possible.
My Project
Especially with the implementation of Common Core, we are trying hard to create more interactive and engaging teaching strategies for our students to manipulate and learn through hands-on experiences. With this challenge comes frequent work of creating, printing, cutting and laminating. We will be using laminated pieces for numeral cards, game pieces with Math as the foundation, and several sorting mats are needed for students' mastery of the Math standards. Unfortunately, often when we laminate at school, the lamination doesn't stick and ends up peeling off and frequently ruins the project. We have purchased a personal laminator for our grade level use but constantly buying these laminating pockets is getting very expensive. Please help so we can keep our students engaged!
