Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a hard working group of little third graders! They have every different kind of personality that one could imagine. These kids have big dreams ans aspirations, and I love that about them. In this class, I have my future NBA player, my inventors, my actors and poets, and of course, my teachers! They have a broad range of interests and talents that always makes the days interesting!
In my room, we try to help each child uncover their talent... and they are encouraged to understand that everyone has a unique talent and it just needs to be discovered!
These kids are mostly English language learners in the center of Las Vegas. It's not the best neighborhood, but it's not the worst. Many of them are caretakers to siblings as parents are working more than one job to provide for families. Many have had to learn responsibility at a very young age, and that brings a unique perspective into a classroom full of eight and nine year olds!
My Project
I have made many centers for my classroom that have been great activities for my kiddos! I would love to be able to laminate them so I can store them and use them over and over again! My paper centers wear out and have to be thrown away after one or two uses! These kids benefit so much from hands on activities, and I want them to have the chance to keep learning and using things that have shown to be very helpful for them.
We try to do center time at least three times a week.
It's so good for the kiddos to have the chance to work in small collaborative groups, and having the right materials for them to use is key to making this effective!
