Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I feel so fortunate to have the privilege of being a Dual Language Immersion teacher at an incredible elementary school in California. Our school offers a unique two-way immersion program with the goal of fostering children’s development of fluency in communication and literacy in two languages, English, and Spanish. I am thrilled to be part of this two-way immersion program and believe strongly in its goals. My students are amazing! They are learning to read, write, speak, and listen in both Spanish and English, as well as reaching for mastery of all academic content standards, including math and science.
We value our students and their families and stress the importance of building community and appreciating differences in culture.
My class is comprised of English Language Learners and students learning to speak Spanish for the first time. My students enjoy working together and helping each other become more proficient in their new language. I love seeing my students turn to each other and ask “Como se dice…” or “How do you say...” because that shows me they are building relationships and learning together!
My Project
I love creating engaging activities and resources to better support my students’ learning--even more so, when they can be used more than once! My kindergarteners are full of energy, kind with one another, and eager to learn, but they are not always gentle when it comes to our classroom materials. I am requesting laminating pouches that will help me create quality and engaging activities for my students that will last for many years to come. These laminating pouches paired with my personal laminator will ensure all the materials I create for my students are preserved and can be used as many times as needed, no matter how rough my students may be. I will be able to create countless math and literacy center games and guided reading resources to supplement our curriculum and best fit the needs of all my students.
Students will be able to use these materials to practice important literacy and math skills an unlimited number of times!
The mini erasers I am also requesting will help students practice math skills like counting, addition, and subtraction. Students can also use the mini erasers to make patterns, letters, and sight words. I want all my students to gain a love for learning in my classroom. Help me instill in my students a love for learning through this project!
