This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students arrive at school every day with a love for learning. My students with disabilities are unable to communicate their feelings with others most of the time.
I teach at a Title I public elementary school in Texas where over 80% of our students are economically disadvantaged.
Several of my students receive backpack food for the weekend. In order to have success in school and in their future careers, my students need the tools to communicate their feelings and information to their peers and teachers.
My Project
My students need visual structure in order to achieve their goals. Visual structure teaches students with disabilities how to be more flexible, how to generalize objects, and how to manage themselves.
Your generous donation to our project will aid our classroom in learning to be more self-sufficient.
By having access to our own laminating machine, our students will be better equipped with visual schedules that will inform them of their routine for the day, provide a way for students to communicate information, and to give a source of consistency for our several autistic students who need organization and routine throughout the day. In addition, the donations given towards our project for the carpet rug will be a visual, physical enhancement to the students' learning experience. The carpet rug will play an integral role in our routine and serve as our whole group learning area.
By making our classroom more organized with visual aids to help our students, I anticipate that our students will be well on their way to achieve social-emotional control as well as academic success!
