This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I love teaching fourth graders. Students at this age have so much personality. They are funny, kind, silly, thoughtful, and curious! I think it is because they are not yet teenagers, but they are also no longer babies. They are in between, which is what I get to experience ...the in-between years. For instance, who would have thought they would be so engaged during our Elf on the shelf unit.
My students wrote wonderfully creative stories about the Elf on the Shelf, even though they didn't necessarily believe in elves.
They were able to document the Elf's daily adventures in their morning journal. Many parents commented that they enjoyed hearing the Elf stories.
My Project
The Saturn 3i 125 Thermal and Cold laminating machine is ideal for classrooms. It is small and uses both heat and cold pouches for laminating. It has an automatic shut off to prevent overheating, so it is safe for use in the classroom with the students.
This laminator would enhance both student and teacher-created materials.
Since my students are usually highly engaged when at their learning centers, the materials tend to get worn out easily. If the math task cards and word-work items were laminated, they would last longer.
More importantly, students would be able to preserve their best narratives as a keepsake. When students see their best work sealed in plastic, their work feels more authentic, and they are even more proud of it. A laminated copy would be preserved for years to come.
