"Save the Earth, Save your future" should be the motto for Lakewood Middle School. Our Community Leadership Class collects numerous items every day to re-use and recycle by teaming with various sources to help keep our global footprint low.
We live in a rural setting, yet try to make a difference in our community.
The Community Leadership Class is run by 8th grade students. They have a school improvement committee to take care of the collection of items from around the school and the cafeteria. Working with the fundraising committee, they sort, clean, dry and pack up the items that we can send for recycling. Some is brought by the class instructor to local recycling facility, some is sent to Terracycle, or other collection agencies.
My Project
These collection containers will be used for our collection center. No longer needing to have plastic lined cardboard boxes, it will provide a durable recycling center presence for the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students that attend school here. It will allow for labeling of all the containers as well to prevent trash from being deposited in the containers.
The addition of the containers will provide a visual reminder of recycling both for our school and our community.
They would be visible for groups using our building on weekends and after school. Having containers the same shape will provide with a neater appearing recycling area as well.
