Our students, in grades 8th through 12th grade, all come from a variety of different backgrounds. We have a wonderful IB program, AP classes, dual-enrolled students, general education program and students with exceptional needs. No matter where the students are academically, our teachers strive to meet their needs and are always looking for ways to improve lessons to reach every type of learner.
My Project
This project is in addition to a previous Lagoon Water Quality Project as we try to get a variety of meters to check water quality in the Indian River lagoon. Students in chemistry, marine science, and environmental science study the Indian River Lagoon and collect data to share with various organizations. We are fortunate enough to have access to the lagoon at the edge of our school property. We have been working on building an outside classroom for students to collect data on the quality of the water as well as the variety of marine life of the lagoon. We have been borrowing equipment from local organizations but would love to have our own meters to use at our convenience.
The outdoor classroom is a great place for students to get engaged in real-world learning while tracking the health of the lagoon.
Our students live in a place surrounded by water. It is important for them to protect the river and understand the environmental impacts that go along with it.
