My Students

My students are hard-working, bright, young individuals. They attend school each and every day, ready to learn, and meet all high expectations. My students love challenges and face difficulties each and every day with smiles on their faces.

My students come from a Title I school with a high population of English learners.

Most come from low-income households and have limited resources and experiences. For many of my students, their only chance of life-enriching activities are at school. They love school, and I want to make this place the most enriching place for them!

My Project

Coding is the 4th literacy. Our students need to not only use a computer, but to read, write, and program computer codes. I want my girls to know that STEM, creativity, and problem-solving isn't just for boys, it's for everyone! And it's exactly what my girls need to launch into higher education and careers in tech to close in on that gender gap!

Coding mathematical design called Logo Turtle and then embroidering that design to create a classroom quilt will be the perfect starter to hook my girls in becoming creative and inventive programmers and coders!

Logo turtles teaches students the step by steps to computer programming. It ties in engineering and math, enhanced with a visual arts providing students with the instant grafication of seeing something that they code. Then using the requested Embrilliance digitizing software, we can change these into embroidery files. The thumbnailer portion of the software can help us see which project belongs to whom on our computer.

During our lunch and after school Lady Leopard Coding Club, my girls will collaborate and code. It will be a safe environment for my girls to dive into their plans, build, code, troubleshoot, and ask for help if they feel stuck. Then using the self adhesive stabilizer, colorful embroidery thread and prewound bobbins, the girls will bring their coded design to life!

With a collection of each of their designs, we'll put it together a Leopard Ladies Coding & Sewing Club quilt!

I want my girls to make the connection that STEM is NOT just for boys. I want them to understand that their projects are just a small step toward a future in computer science and STEM; and that everyone can be scientists!
