R-H Middle School started a lacrosse club in 2014. Since its inception, the student interest across the school has grown tremendously. The boys on the team thoroughly enjoy the sport and learning from their coach.
We are very fortunate to have a teacher on staff who has been playing lacrosse since he was very young, has coached lacrosse at the high-school level for many years, and saw a need to develop the student interest and skills at a younger age and wanted to start lacrosse here at R-H Middle School.
My Project
The lacrosse club team interest and love of the sport is expanding each year since its inception.
Purchasing lacrosse equipment is EXPENSIVE!
To outfit a new player with all the necessary equipment at the very basic and most cost effective level, you are still looking at a minimum $400.00 per player. Since we are new and still considered a club, we do not fall under the school athletic umbrella and thus do not receive school funds to support the program at this time. However they have been generous in assisting the team cover some of the expense of referees and allowing us the use of the activity bus. In addition, a teacher that has his CDL license has provided his services by driving the team to and from games using the school activity bus at no cost to the team. The team has also been fortunate enough to receive used equipment donations from other area colleges and charter schools, but with the growing interest in the sport, our equipment needs have grown as well. Since the most expensive piece of equipment is the helmet, we are beginning there. Part of the supply request is for additional helmets since we now have more players.
In addition, the national lacrosse association has changed the rules for the 2017-2018 lacrosse season on what is allowed and not allowed for lacrosse heads. All the current lacrosse heads that the team owns will be illegal for the upcoming season - we need to purchase all new sticks!
