My student-athletes have never had the opportunity to play lacrosse. My school attracts students from all over New York City. However, many of the students have never heard of the sport. Lacrosse has been known as a team-building sport and has often led to full and partial scholarships at the collegiate level. Unfortunately, many of our students have not had the access to after-school activities that are available in more affluent schools.
Despite (and perhaps because of) their lack of resources, our students are compassionate, creative, and driven in their pursuits.
They walk the halls with pride as they represent not only our school, but our five core values. Each student individually and uniquely represents the ideas of curiosity, risk taking, empathy, resilience, and self-awareness.
Therefore, as teachers, we see our students succeed daily by watching their interactions with each other, seeing them in the hallways, watching them during after school events, and of course, seeing their progress and improvements in the classroom. With your help, we may be able to see that same passion and success on a lacrosse field as well.
My Project
Many of our students have never played lacrosse before. Through the generous donations from other organizations, we have lacrosse heads waiting for shafts. All we need is your help to buy these lacrosse shafts. With your help, we can give a NYC public school student their first lacrosse stick, and help grow the game for diverse students.
As student-athletes, our students will have an opportunity to participate in healthy extracurricular activities, and increase their access to post-secondary success.
