Ms. Berg from Oklahoma City OK is requesting classroom basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need composition notebooks, gluesticks, scissors, and coloring utensils in order to set up interactive notebooks for keeping track of notes and experiments. These will keep my students organized and better prepared for assessments.

Our Mid-High School is a title I school where all the students receive free lunch. As one of the oldest high schools in the state of Oklahoma, Douglass has seen good times and bad times. Currently the school is under new administration and is working hard to provide a better and more equitable education for our students.
Our students battle prejudice every day and yet they come to school eager to learn.
Oklahoma is currently a "STEM desert" and as such, many of my students have had a wishy-washy past with science. Many come to Douglass with only 10% mastery in science. My goal through teaching Biology is to make science an accessible and engaging subject that my students can succeed in.
Currently many of my students have unstable home lives making it hard for them to remain organized. This leaves many without access to notes or study materials while we prepare for an exam. Last semester many students were very disappointed by their final exam grade because so many of them had lost notes and homework so they did not have materials to study.
Having interactive notebooks will give my students a greater chance of succeeding on assessments and help teach organization skills for future classes.
Interactive notebooks are a proven method to improve student engagement during class and organization, both of which are important for understanding and succeeding in Biology.
I asked for 120 Composition notebooks so that every student can have one as majority of my students are unable to provide their own. Glue sticks are required so that they can glue worksheets and interactive foldables into the notebook. Scissors, colored pencils and markers are so that all students can create study materials to put into the notebook. Coloring has been proven to help students retain information better and will be a common tool they use in the interactive notebooks from color coding to coloring models of concepts.
