Our school is a brand new charter school here in the state of South Carolina. We are only the 5th charter school in America that is specialized in teaching children with Dyslexia. How awesome is that!
Our students are amazing and very special thinkers.
All of our students have dyslexia or the characteristics of dyslexia. Dyslexia is a learning difference where the dyslexic student has difficulty with words. According to Orton Academy, dyslexia is difficulty in the use and processing of linguistic and symbolic codes. These students have trouble with alphabetic letter/speech sound relationships as well as numeric symbol/number/quantity relationships. It affects spoken language, written language, and language comprehension. You may think that dyslexic students have low IQ's with these difficulties, but in fact, they have average to above average IQ's.
Dysleixc students are out-of-the-box thinkers and if given the right tools and proper intervention in school they often become very successful in life.
Many dyslexics are engineers, famous actors/artist/musicians, and very successful entrepreneurs. Albert Einstein, the late Steve Jobs, Tim Tebow, Jay Leno, are among the many successful people who are dyslexic. So, as you can see, these students have great potential, it just has to be
My Project
Our new school is in need of a Laminating Machine & Lamination Rolls, that will be used by all teachers in our school, for many years to come!
Students at LABCS would benefit directly from the new laminating machine, as much of their work is in paper form, and the laminator will be able to make their work reusable, and will allow the work to be kept for years after.
Our teachers will be able to use this machine to better prepare their classrooms for the students they serve, and to insure that resources we purchase & use will be preserved and kept for years to come!
Along with the teachers, our students will benefit from this laminator as well. Worksheets & activities can be made for them that will then lead to more hands on & interactive work for them to write on!
