Student safety is paramount during classroom experiments, and especially when chemicals are in use. My students need lab coats to help protect themselves and their clothing while we work with chemicals during experiments. I hope to instill in my students a love of science and experimentation.
The majority of my students come from disadvantaged homes where they do not have access to funds to pay for basic school supplies, let alone the more expensive science fees.
They are thirsty for knowledge, but many times do not feel that they are deserving or able to explore the world of science because of a lack of funds. My school is all about embracing creativity, and I hope to motivate my students to embrace their imaginations when discovering Science.
My Project
Students will be able to use these lab coats during classroom experiments. I hope to use them not only as protection (which is the most important thing), but also to help them reach the frame of mind of being a scientist. I want them to feel like they are scientists and not just students in my classroom. They will learn to treat the laboratory with respect and be responsible when handling equipment and materials. They will also understand the importance of following rules for safety reasons. I hope to teach them all what it means to be a responsible adult with an important job. I want them to learn that in a career, not only are motivation and knowledge important, but the little things count, such as dresscode.
By being able to safely perform experiments using the proper protective gear, students will learn the importance of following rules & regulations.
They will learn maturity by becoming scientists in the laboratory. They will be motivated and engaged when performing experiments. And it just might steer those hesitant students towards a career in Science.
