My students attend a Title I school. Over half of our students receive free or reduced lunch. We offer the Back Pack Buddies program at our school to provide students food for the weekends. Our goal at Nashville Elementary is to focus on the whole student by building their academic skill set, social emotional welfare, as well as their self-esteem. We provide several programs throughout the school year to build positive community, school and student relationships, such as All Pro Dads, Bucket Drumming, PBIS rewards, and the "Kutz for Kings". However, "Kutz for Kings" provides students with a free haircut who would not otherwise be able to afford it and the opportunity to feel good about themselves while learning!
My Project
Nashville Elementary is a Title I school and have received several donations for school supplies. However, this grant will allow our students the opportunity to receive a haircut throughout the school year. Our goal is to provide haircuts for all students at the beginning of the school year, before holidays, and before school awards day programs. We have community members that have agreed to assist in giving the haircuts. This grant will provide the supplies that are needed to provide this service.
The beginning of school is an exciting time for students to buy school supplies, new clothes, and to top it off with a fresh haircut.
We are requesting assistance with the following items: clippers, capes, scissors, alcohol pads, and clipper spray. We were able to provide this service last school year and it helped build students' self-esteem for the opening day of school. The total cost for materials breaks down to $1.29 per student for a school population of 750 students.
