My Students

This August, I will have the pleasure of starting my first year as a teacher at a Title I school to a wonderful group of kindergarten students. They are vibrant, intelligent, enthusiastic, and eager to learn.

Many of them will be receiving free or reduced lunch, which means they will fall near or below the poverty level but this should not and absolutely WILL NOT be a limiting factor on the quality of education they receive.

Children will enter my classroom from all walks of life. It is my responsibility to be an advocate for them. I pledge to always go above and beyond to help my students be as successful as they can be. Your contributions will play a key role in their academic development.

My Project

Young learners thrive in a setting that caters to their individual needs and personalities. It is important to be mindful that the dynamic of classrooms has greatly changed in the past few years. Teachers are shifting towards student-centered setups and it has proven to be more engaging and productive for learning.

My goal is to create a space that aligns with diversity, flexibility, and choice where students will be equal and active participants in everyday activities.

This project contains a variety of materials that will be used for the following purposes:

1. Literacy centers: Centers will be arranged so that students can move freely throughout the classroom. We will be using the book collection and audio books to practice reading fluency, prosody, and patterns of rhyming. The games will be used to learn and reinforce sight words. The whisper phones will be used for guided reading groups so that students can hear themselves reading and gain confidence without feeling intimidated, simultaneously, the teacher will work one-on-one with a student. Centers not only promote literacy, but they also introduce students to creating and fostering relationships with their peers.

2. Calendar math: Every day, we will have "morning meetings" that will set the tone for the day. We will cover the day(s) of the week, month, and holidays. In addition, students will practice patterns, counting, and turn-taking. The goal is to model it for a month and then assign two different students to run it every day. Peer learning is an amazing instructional strategy.

3. Social Studies and Science Workbooks: These books will help us become acquainted with the basic concepts of science and social studies. They will be used daily and in addition to other curricula. We will also be doing hands-on activities as the year progresses.
