My classroom will be filled with many different students who come from various backgrounds. It is my goal to get them to be able to see themselves in the books around them, while being able to participate in discussions regarding their reading with other students.
Classroom community is the key to being successful during the school year.
By starting the year off with strategic read alouds that encourage community, I will be able to teach my students about accountable talk, how we can discuss and debate books and thoughts while being accepting and understanding of others and their view points.
My Project
By adding Kindles to our classroom, students will have the opportunity to read any book, not just the ones in our school or classroom library. Having Kindles will allow me as the teacher to directly purchase any book that students are interested in. So many of these children love to read books that are part of a series, so having access to the Kindle Store allows us to purchase the next books in the set.
The Kindles would also give students a chance to create and utilize book clubs.
Students need the opportunity to discuss their thoughts and feelings about a text with one another. These discussions are also a great avenue for students to share any connections they had with a text, character or even a personal experience. Children learn so much from one another and adding these Kindles to our classroom opens up a gateway for reading and discussion!
