This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I see several different grades over the span of each school day. Each class is excited about coming to art and try their hand at a new technique. We have been covering mostly two-dimensional art so far this year. I would like to get them started on three-dimensional art with windsocks!
My students range from Kindergarten to 5th grade.
Each classroom is as unique as the art created by each student. My school could use these additional supplies to help my students expand their creative horizons by creating three-dimensional work that can fly from the ceilings.
My Project
My students will create three-dimensional koi / carp windsocks by using construction paper for the body of the fish, stamps to create patterns for fish scales, paper streamers for the tails of the windsocks, and glitter to highlight the iridescent skin of the fish.
This project would be a perfect introduction to creating art on a three-dimensional, rather than two-dimensional, surface.
Not only would my students get experience in 3-D artwork, they would also gain an understanding of pattern repetition and cultural significance of the windsock in Japan.
