Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are middle schoolers at a Title I school in New York. My students come from diverse backgrounds and many from tough homes. They are overcoming social and emotional barriers each day to receive an education.

My students are active and enthusiastic.

They are motivated and eager to do well. They want to learn and are constantly seeking opportunities to take ownership of their learning.

Our school is in a high needs, high poverty area in which most children are on free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch programs. My students work hard despite the challenges they face. Many students stay after school, participate in after-school clubs and activities and are always striving to be, and do, better for themselves and for others.

My Project

Curiosity and compassion are at the core of our students' lives at my school. We seek to sustain that curiosity and compassion through the use of Chromebooks. My goal is to establish successful student learning in a technologically-advanced world. Having the ability to offer a variety of different learning options will advance student learning and work to further engage them in the classroom and beyond.

Some of the topics taught are the Greek Gods; The Rosetta Stone; Malala and Mandela; healthy eating; and Earth's resources/climate change.

These Chromebooks will allow flexibility for student pacing and enable students to research concepts in reading, science, social studies, math, and writing. They will use Google Classroom and other applications to collaborate and further their understanding using their peers through teamwork and collaboration. Most importantly, they will be able to have access to a more personalized education that will further their learning and their interest in STEM. I am confident that giving students access to technology, in this case, through the use of Chromebooks, we will further student learning, engagement, creativity, and overall skills that are needed not only today but for the future, which is what we are working so hard to prepare them for.
