Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What is the last thing you read? Was it a DIY blog, an article on raising healthy kids, or an instruction manual for your iPhone? All of those are Non-Fiction, and students need to be exposed to much more non-fiction text to succeed in our 21st century world.
My nineteen students are creative, energetic, and AMAZING!
They are a diverse group in so many ways, but they are alike in one important way: they love learning. Giving them information is not enough, they enjoy discovering knowledge on their own and becoming experts in areas. When they learn something new, my students are excited to share their knowledge with their classmates. They are motivating and inspiring!
My Project
I am requesting three sets of non-fiction books for my students. When I asked them what types of books they would like to see more of in our classroom library, many students responded with a request for non-fiction.
The three sets I have requested are on different reading levels: second grade, third grade, and fifth grade. A variety of levels will help ensure that every student has a text that is accessible for their individual needs.
I will store the texts in our classroom library in organized bins so that the books are always available for students to check out and take home. The goal is not just for students to always have a book to read, but for each student to have a book that excites or interests them and motivates them to read and learn more. I think these non-fiction texts will help reach that goal.
The ability to read and comprehend non-fiction is a vital skill for citizens of our 21st century world.
I hope that these non-fiction texts will encourage my students to continue their search for knowledge and strive for more.
