Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My wonderful class is filled with twenty -five kindergartners! They are highly motivated, super energetic, and hardworking. My students come from varying backgrounds. Some have been to a school or daycare previously; others have never been in a structured learning environment, and several speak languages other than English at home. Although we face challenges on a daily basis, we still push toward our overall goal of being prepared and successful for first grade.

Our elementary school is a Title One school and has the largest population in the district.

Our school motto is “Achieving Success, Nothing Less”. We have instilled this in our students. Everyone has an important role to play and everyone can be successful. Unfortunately, we are limited when it comes to technological resources. Our dedicated staff continues to go above and beyond the standard expectations and recognizes that all children have the potential of learning.

My Project

My goal is to build math and English Language Arts skills through the use of iPad minis. I will be able to differentiate based on my students' levels, check if they have mastered a skill, and identify areas that they will need to improve on. My kindergartners will love and appreciate using small, handheld devices that are brightly colored and kid-friendly to use. On one hand, it will seem as though they are playing a game, but on the other hand, they are actually learning and growing at their own pace.

This donation will benefit the needs of my students by learning and practicing skills with a current mode of learning through technology.

My students will be using the iPads during Math and Literacy Centers. They will have the opportunity to work with a partner or individually. My students will have access to Starfall, ABCmouse, Teach Me Kindergarten, and Phonics on a Farm to name a few. The available educational websites and applications are abundant for early learners.
