My students are composed of a group of children from diverse families and backgrounds. I am excited to see where this year will take us and to watch the growth that each child will accomplish. I want to make sure that each child is equipped and ready to be as successful as they can be throughout their 5th-grade year and beyond.
Teaching at a Title I school in Oakland, presents its own level of blessings and challenges.
One blessing that makes such a difference in a student's life is the sense of community and importance that they have at school. I hope that to help students thrive and build on these feelings throughout the year. Some of the challenges that my students face is that lack of access to resources and opportunities that they have based on economic strains. Over 80% of our student population receives free or reduced lunch.
My Project
Picture books are not just for second graders or younger. My students have loved read aloud time and using picture books for research. These books cover a range of topics and people that my students are interested in and would enjoy reading about.
A variety of resources spark curiosity and presents information to students in an interesting and engaging way.
I look forward to seeing my students reading these books and sparking new questions and interests for them. Our library needs some updated books and this project will get us new books to help my students grow as readers and learners.
