My students need batting tees and soft squishy balls to learn and practice hitting a ball with a long handled implement. This will work wonders with our t-ball unit.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A good portion of my students come from Spanish speaking, low-income families where some even live in shelters. What sets my Kindergarten and first grade students out from everyone else is that they have NEVER had a physical education class before. In the past they had to wait until second grade where they move to the other building down the road to get their first encounter with physical activity. The kids this year were so excited that I was hired and that they were getting to move around and enjoy being active.
Imagine never having physical activity or learning basic gross motor skills until the age of 8 years old.
So far this year I have taught my students basic locomotor movements (galloping, skipping, hopping on 1 foot, etc), jumping and landing properly, flexibility through yoga and currently a rhythm and dance unit. The thrill they get from being able to get energy out and learn about activities or sports they have never encountered before is what keeps me going as a teacher. The cheers I hear while walking to each class for gym is exciting!
My Project
At our school, students have never had a physical education class before. In the past, their first experience with physical education class was in 2nd grade. This year will be the Kindergarten and first grades first year being active. This equipment is crucial to broadening the students ideas of fun physical activity and opens a world of new sports up to them.
This t-ball equipment will help students with hand-eye coordination, manipulation of a long-handled implement, and gross-motor skills.
The kids will be introduced to this sport and may spark an interest to play in college when they get older.
