Have you ever been part of a book club? Do you enjoy discussing topics with others who share similar interest? Book clubs help students share ideas to increase comprehension and inspire more reading. We need interesting and informative books for our nonfiction book club!
My 4th grade students range from ELL (English Language Learners) and SLD (students with Specific Learning Disabilities) to students that are gifted and talented.
While they may face unique challenges, all of my students are hard working and eager to succeed.
My Project
This project will provide enriching nonfiction text to students who either have a love of reading or enjoy non-fiction topics. While we currently have sets of fiction books for the students to enjoy, many books that our students will encounter later in their education will be nonfiction. It is very important that our students learn how to read these books in a constructive way. I am requesting sets of books to be used in small groups for a nonfiction book club. All requested materials are aligned with the science and social studies state standards.
The nonfiction book club will allow students to come together once a week to discuss what they have read and share their thoughts and opinions. Students will prepare questions, connections, vocabulary discussions and illustrations to bring to the book club each week. The book club will motivate students to read deeply so that they are ready participate in a conversation with peers.
Any donation to my book club project would be greatly appreciated.
This grant will provide students with materials to improve reading skills and find interests in social studies and science. Thank you for your donation of any amount.
