Nestled in a rural valley surrounded by beautiful views, you will find a school filled with students with big dreams! Among these students is a group of sixth graders that are working hard to improve their reading and explore the world through books.
Our classroom is made up of students with a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds, interests and dreams.
Despite some of the challenges they may face outside of school, our students have a strong desire to learn and be successful!
My Project
It's no secret that finding ways to engage students in their reading and writing leads to more students WANTING to read! What better way to engage students, than inviting them to participate in an afterschool book club entitled, Knightly Page Turners? (Our school mascot is a knight!) Students will be presented with book choices around a theme for the month. One afternoon each month, students will gather after school to chat about the book and create a fun reading project that will make their book come alive: a message in a bottle, origami characters, duct tape bookmarks, lego creations, video journals, etc. The funds donated for this project will be used to purchase book club books and art supplies for book projects (origami paper, duct tape, etc.)
These projects are a far cry from boring book reports!
We will provide the transportation from school to home, we just need the supplies and books to create excitement among the Knightly Page Turners!
