I teach 29 very happy and exuberant first graders. We are a classroom community of learners, where I have high expectations for my students and want to see them reach their fullest potential.
We are located in the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago, which is home to a large Mexican-American community.
Most of my students are bilingual and 97% of them qualify for the free lunch program. Many of my students have difficult home lives and lack the foundational skills needed to be successful readers. It is my job to close that gap while fostering a love of reading and school.
My students are active learners and benefit from hands-on activities and games. I try to make learning fun, collaborative, and engaging!
Due to the recent surge in Covid in our school community, I am asking for KN95 masks for my students. Some of my students have trouble keeping their masks up and covering both their nose and mouth. The KN95 has a better shape and the students who struggle with the fit of the disposable surgical masks seem to do better with the KN95's. I want to do all that I can for my students to ensure a safe school environment. While I can not control what happens once they leave school, I can at least ensure that they do not get sick while at school.
