My Project

"Choose Love!" is a phrase you would see and hear walking around our campus. I am fortunate to be a part of a school that values the importance of whole-child development. Just as academic achievement is critical to student growth, so is fostering a sense of confidence, belonging, and wellbeing in our Keiki (children).

Through COVID-19, the importance of positive family relationships and involvement became incredibly apparent.

I want to foster healthy school-to-home connections that encourage families to be a part of their child's learning and emotional growth, while also helping to bridge any academic gaps caused by COVID-19. The At-Home Kits that this project supports would allow me to create backpacks with reading and math games for students to play with their loved ones.

Kits would be rotated monthly so students could try new games and practice new skills. The learning games within these kits include skills such as rhyming, beginning sounds, addition and subtraction, comparing numbers, measurement, sight words, retelling, shapes, syllables, reading comprehension, and more. This would encourage confidence in my students while also allowing opportunities for families to engage in grade appropriate skills through play. I know that these kits would help strengthen the connections and relationships between school and home.
