Students in my classes learn so much each year -- it's truly astounding! Usually, after a few months, students will remember how anxious they were to begin in August, and then we can see just how much we'll grow. Students in our community are eager to learn every day when they enter the classroom. How wonderful for a teacher to be treated to bright, shiny faces! No matter what level each child was at when they started, they have all grown, both intellectually as well as socially.
Our students are spending more time in the school kitchen, especially in the after-school programs. Combining lessons in school that can connect to activities on campus, as well as after school, is a wonderful opportunity. As teachers, we don't always have those opportunities. Our 7th Grade History students will be involved in a Medieval Festival, where their culinary arts will be on display. The after-school program can also benefit from using the same equipment in the kitchen -- same teacher! We will need better organization for our knife storage at each kitchen station, as well as drying racks for our cutting boards.
