Help me give my students a saucepan, measuring cups, mixing bowls and other kitchen equipment to have the opportunity to work on daily living skills through cooking projects and our in-school business!
My students are always eager and excited to learn new skills and activities of daily living! My students range in age from kindergarten to 6th grade. Students in my classroom have intellectual disabilities, autism and other learning disabilities that make learning daily living skills essential.
Our district is in an extremely low income area.
This sometimes means that students are not given the opportunity to learn such skills in their home environment, so learning them at school is that much more important!
Throughout these formative years, students are introduced to basic life skills and activities of daily living that will help them become independent, responsible adults. Students look forward to our cooking projects and in-school business. They are learning valuable skills that will enable them to be productive citizens and valued members of our community. Through my program, they learn to embrace their abilities, not their disability.
Having the necessary equipment to teach my students activities of daily living, including cooking and running a small business, is essential! I am fortunate enough to have a small kitchenette in my classroom; however, most of my kitchen equipment and supplies are pre-millennial! In order to effectively run our in-school business, Delicious Delights, we need to have the necessary equipment to effectively and efficiently prepare items to sell to staff.
These kitchen essentials, including a saucepan, measuring cups, mixing bowls and other kitchen equipment, will allow my students to gain skills, knowledge and confidence that they will carry with them throughout their adulthood years!
Many of my students have very few opportunities to learn the skills that we are working on in my classroom. They look forward to our cooking projects. They will be planning and preparing items for staff and practicing new skills with each cooking project we undertake! Having the necessary and updated kitchen equipment will allow us to explore even more in the years to come!
