My Students

I work in an intensity focused school. What's unique about my school is all the students that attend the school live within walking distance, making our school a neighboring school. These students come from very diverse backgrounds. What I love about working at my school is to see the dedication from my colleagues in providing the students with a place where they can feel safe, and have routines set in place. These students come from single parent homes, live in high poverty and have witnessed more incidences in their lives that I care to imagine.

That's what these kids want, a chance to learn.

My Project

With my pedal bikes that I hope to get, my students will be able to be kinesthetic learners. It's very hard for them to sit in their desks for an extended period of time. With pedal bikes they will be able to be active with their feet and learn quietly. This equipment allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times as well as whole group learning instead of pacing around the room becoming distracted or want to leave the room they can get their jitters out in their seats. Currently my students are wanting to get out of their desks move around and as a result this distracts the learning of all. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating.
