My students are kind, creative, and full of energy! They love hands-on and engaging activities and experiments that allow them to collaborate to find their solutions! They come to school ready to reach outside of their comfort zone in order to grow both personally and academically.
Many students in my classroom participate in a variety of physical activities outside of school.
This allows them to build relationships with other peers in our community and develop leadership skills outside of the classroom while keeping them active and healthy. My goal is to bring the focus of active options and healthy activities into our science classroom.
Each child in my classroom loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, alternative seating, and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met. However, I would like to increase our focus on meeting their needs to be more physically active while they are in the classroom setting.
My Project
The items that I have selected will help my students by giving ALL of them alternative and active seating options, which in turn will increase their focus and learning. The dry-erase tables will allow for an increase in collaboration among my students, as well as less paper being wasted. The balance boards, large yoga balls, and ellipitcals will allow for quiet and active movement for students who need it. The lights will be used to bring in a calming effect during assessments or when students need to decompress after highly active task.
I have seen how choice and active seating can positively affect my students focus and behavior and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
