Help me give my students these 4th grade kindness t-shirts so that they can heighten their involvement with our classroom community, our school community, and our rural hometown community.
My 4th grade class has 22 students. Many of them I am getting the pleasure of working with twice. I had most of this group of kids when they were in kindergarten. It is lovely to see how they have grown as learners and as people.
Since we are a small, rural school, I know these students are compassionate and helpful because I see them every day.
If you need something, they will volunteer to help you. They are hardworking and care about learning.
My Project
We have really been working on our classroom community this year. I'd like to help the students see how they can be role models for the rest of our school and our community.
In the world of social media, kindness is not being exhibited.
Even at the 4th grade level, they are involved with social media and gaming. I know that they would never say mean things in person. They are already very kind and helpful kids. I want them to know that there are real people on the other end of that who have feelings too, and what we say can really hurt someone.
I want students to see the smiles people give with simple human kindnesses. In practicing this at school, I hope that they take it out to our rural hometown community. Kindness breeds kindness. People will spread it around.
Whenever a student wears his/her shirt, a member of our classroom kindness team will give them a special mission to complete that day. Being kind brings joy to the person who receives it and gives it.
