I am a teacher in a low socio-economic school district located in a high immigrant neighborhood. All my students receive free lunch and the majority of them are English learners. Because of the language barriers, many of my students lack self-confidence in expressing themselves and can be discouraged easily. As a teacher, I strive to create a positive environment where my students can grow individually and academically.
My students are multicultural, multilingual, and multi-wonderful!
I want to encourage my students to be positive and provide a safe means for them to participate in encouraging others.
My Project
We are requesting paint markers, clear glaze, and clear sealer so we can be a part of the Kindness Rocks Project. The Kindness Rocks project is to spread inspiration to others through random acts of kindness, in this case, inspirational messages on decorated rocks.
Kindness Rocks will encourage students to be kind to one another and to create an atmosphere of positivity in the school.
The students will learn about the Kindness Rocks project. Then the children will design and create their own Kindness Rocks that will be placed in school and in their neighborhoods to be found by others.
My students do not have access to the supplies needed to create Kindness Rocks. The materials donated will allow my students to create their rocks to inspire others. My students can inspire with English and with their own native languages. They can take pride and joy in sharing inspirational messages of kindness.
This project can also bring joy and positivity to other students who find the Kindness Rocks. Kindness Rocks at Rice School will begin with the 5th graders and hopefully build to an after school project or even a whole school project.
