My Project

Due to the COVID pandemic, I feel like there is a significantly stronger push for teachers to place an emphasis on teaching the curriculum. This has hindered teachers' ability to implement activities in the classroom that deviate from the curriculum. However, I believe that more than ever, it is important that students are immersed in a classroom that promotes global competency. It is vital that students are provided opportunities that allow them to see through the lens of others. By doing so, this will help students develop critical thinking skills, empathy, and an awareness that can have a positive impact on the world. I would love to say that I have a globally competent classroom, but unfortunately that is not true. During our morning meetings, we do activities that help promote critical thinking, empathy, and awareness of the local and global community, but I would love to do so much more. I want to create a school-wide kindness project that involves students, staff, parents, and community members. I believe this will not only have a positive impact in our school, but the community as well. Being taught the core curriculum is important, but skills like empathy, compassion, critical thinking, and optimism are life long skills that will lead to creating a generation of citizens that can leave a positive impact in the world.

I will use the money to further my education with professional development courses.

Additionally, I will use the money to purchase materials for different random acts of kindness projects. My goal is to allow each classroom in our school to participate in at least one random act of kindness activity during the 2022-2023 school year.
