Kindness Is Contagious! Kindergarten Social Emotional Project
Help me give my students books and fidgets to support their social-emotional learning. I also have books that teach about food allergies, as food allergy awareness is crucial for all students!
Students don’t care what you know until they know you care! Kindergarten is such an exciting time for my little kiddos to blossom into life long learners. Kindergarten consists of a variety of learners. Some are learning to read, write, and explore. While some are learning how to share and cooperate with each other. I also have some students who are new to the country and are learning the English language. They rely on visuals and constant modeling within the classroom. Students in my classroom come from different social, economic, and cultural backgrounds . Our school has an ESL program and a program to help students with autism. These students are mainstreamed into the general education setting through out the day. I love Kindergarten because they are learning independence and working collaboratively!
My Project
With these books my students will learn many social emotional skills and how to show empathy and kindness toward one another. The books will enhance my print rich classroom that I strive to create. Kindergarten is such an impressionable young age. It is important that they are exposed to many different genres. The food allergy books will teach these young children about food allergies and why it is important to keep everyone in our classroom safe. Social emotional learning is essential at this age. Students come in with many different needs and often do not know how to cope with all of these new emotions. I have added several social emotional titles as well as tangible tools. Through the use of these materials students will learn to understand and self regulate their emotions. The books will help students create connections within themselves to the characters and the underlying themes. The tangible tools are used to provide sensory input in a less distracting way. These tools will allow students to focus during circle time and through out the day. Developing stronger social emotional skills improves the overall academic performance for my students.
