My students need supplies and materials to display and present their projects and presentations. The portable magnetic white boards will be used for group presentations to advisory classes. Chart paper is used for interactive presentations.
As adviser to our newly created Student Leadership Team (SLT), it is my goal to promote kindness, tolerance, acceptance, and educate all students about bullying and its effects. There are approximately 60 students involved in the SLT and they have take on leadership roles by working with their peer on these topics. Some have made video/slide show presentations to share with their peers.
My students want to be "part of the solution" in this current political and social climate of intolerance and bigotry.
Their ideas are inspiring and enthusiasm is contagious. It is my goal to assist them and facilitate their ideas into becoming a reality. They are role models for all of our middle school students and the real value I see is students teaching students. The message is much better received by the student body when it is delivered by peers.
Students as Leaders have prepared presentations (posters, slide shows, videos, and discussion topics) around the topics of bullying, empathy, bystanders, up-standers, random acts of kindness, compassion, understanding, etc.) Leadership students present their projects to their peers during morning advisory class periods.
All grades (6-8) participate in the kindness initiative through these student presentations and discussions.
The culminating activity is a student lead, student prepared, student planned, and student presented assembly to the entire school. The impacts of bullying, being an upstander, and long term effects of bullying are part of the assembly presentation. Reflections and discussion will follow the assembly, utilizing the chart paper and portable magnetic white boards.
