I am on the Social Emotional Support Team for my school. I teach 4th grade, but I'm planning a small project for the entire school. My students are the reason behind my planning a mini curriculum/school event. have been digging in to strategies for social/emotional growth and de-escalation strategies. Many of my students have experienced trauma in their lives. Through all of their experiences, my students persevere in trying to be kind and strengthen their sense of self esteem. They NEVER give up on themselves....or others.
We are now in a place to help others in our school community.
We have learned that kindness, empathy, and understanding are crucial to a students' success in school and beyond. We try to practice these skills every day. We have been working closely with the school social worker, principal, and assistant principal.
My Project
At our school, we are teaching kindness. I am using this theme in my classroom to lift up my students and to help them lift up others. I also serve on the Social Emotional Support Team at the school.
I would like my students to share what we have learned about kindness, empathy, and compassion.
The books purchased for this project would go towards a whole-school library in which classrooms could sign-out books about being kind. We would also purchase a suggestion box, which would allow students to privately write to their teacher, the social worker, or the principal about a struggle they are having. Lastly, the posters would be hung schoolwide to support our project. We feel this is an important topic to teach our friends and promote Kindness Begins with Me!
