My second graders are entering a new grade with new classmates and one of the best ways to support their journey this year is to build our classroom community together. We will embark on a venture of kindness and mindfulness to become the best citizens we can be, both in our classroom and outside of it. Our practices will support our school code of conduct - respect, responsibility, honesty, courage, and compassion.
The kindness and openness second graders possess will make incorporating mindfulness into our daily practice an easy transition.
My students are eager, curious and ready to take on their new year.
Help me enhance my students' social-emotional learning by creating a classroom library of books and tools to benefit their mindfulness and kindness with each other. We will spend the first month of school learning about ourselves, each other and how to best approach any challenges they face.
Mindfulness creates awareness of children's bodies, minds and feelings in the present moment without overwhelming by what is going on around them.
My goal for the year is to have a community of second graders that are aware of their feelings and provide lifelong strategies for them to keep their bodies calm in the present.
