I teach at a Title I school in North Carolina. The ethnic makeup of my school is very diverse. My classroom being mostly Hispanic; then equal parts Caucasian and African American. All of the students in my school receive free breakfast and lunch. Some students even receive food on Fridays to help support them over the weekends. Which illustrates the socioeconomic disparities of the community.
Despite the many hardships my students may face at home, they arrive to class every morning ready to try their best.
This of which, makes me very proud of them, they display a desire and curiosity to learn. I wish to give them the best education possible so that they may achieve any dream or goal they set their minds to. I want to set them up for success that will stay with them through their whole lives. That all starts with a positive, productive, and purposeful education.
My Project
The materials I am requesting are to help my students have a opportunity to engage and advance their learning through technology. Our school being a title 1 school does not have the funds to provide adequate technology to classrooms, leaving some students unable to have the opportunity to participate in online learning and engagement during centers for Math and Reading.
Since, being a 21st century learner is important to me and my students I am requesting Kindles to aid in their academic achievement.
I have requested 3 Kid Kindle Fire HD's these will allow all students at a center rotation to have the access they need to programs and applications such as Freckle and Waterford to best improve their academic understanding and comprehension. This will also allow for one student to partake in a listening center that will aid in comprehension and valuable skills in reading.
