Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a group of dedicated, hardworking and motivated students. They will be diligently working to analyze and synthesize Spanish Literature and amplify their knowledge of Hispanic Culture in AP Spanish Language. All of them are very eager and interested in diving into the new content. They have been persistent and have shown dedication through their essay writing and oral presentations. They also continue to amaze me with their writing and grasp of what is taught.
Their excitement is reflected in their dedication to study and their results on essays they've produced in class.
They work very diligently every single day to improve their grammar and syntax whether they're analyzing texts or writing persuasive essays. They are currently working on their presentational skills and have amazed me with their organization, vocabulary and comprehension of other cultures. They have also learned to appreciate and love old Spanish novels and are eager to read more of them everyday.
My Project
Technology with this new generation is a must to help get their interest. In this era, it is impossible to not use technology as a bribe or way to increase student engagement in any lesson. Therefore, it should be no surprise that the use of a tablet in a foreign language classroom would help with all of that. In my classroom, students do almost everything on a tablet. Among the activities that I have planned for the year are online quizzes, research projects, learning how to record their oral presentations for the AP exam, and access to class materials.
Productivity goes up when you hand a student a tablet or computer as they are highly knowledgeable on how to use and navigate such devices, which increases student achievement.
When students work on tablets they have a better retention of the material they were taught that day. They're also more productive since they are more attentive to what they need to complete while using the tablet before the day is over. Students can find study materials that are available to them as well as exemplary examples from the College Board that they can use as guides. The most important thing they will be able to do this year is find guided museum tours online. Recently, I've discovered that you can walk through a museum online without even being in that country. This will increase students' cultural knowledge which will be reflected in their cultural comparisons.
Ultimately, your donation will be helping give students access to the internet and technology that they don't have at home. They are always excited to use tablets because it's a privilege that they don't have at home.
