Kindle the Love of Reading

My students need a Kindle Fire, with a sleeve and screen protector, to help improve reading fluency.

My Students

Students can develop language fluency from listening to books. It is difficult to keep the attention of students with a CD player. Students have a difficult time keeping up with turning the pages. Using the Kindle Fire, the students would be exposed to a wide range of literature read fluently.

My students include 18 first graders who come from a variety of backgrounds and have a wide range of reading abilities.

Many of them started the year only reading a few sight words or only knew a few sounds. They are very excited to become good readers. The students are always very excited to hear stories read to them.

My Project

The Kindle Fire brings books to life on a vibrant color screen. There are over 1000 children's books available at a variety of reading levels. Students would be able to work with a partner as they listen to stories during independent reading time. Students could also read along as they work on reading fluency.

My students currently have limited access to listen to stories independently because we currently have only one classroom computer.

The Kindle Fire would be an exciting opportunity to improve reading fluency by listening to a wide variety of books. With the purchase of a Kindle fire, you would help kindle the love of reading for first grade students.
