Help me give my students Kindle tablets and headphones to access audiobooks, in order to ensure that ALL children can read the diverse books that are available.
Lucille Clifton put it best when she said this; “The literature of America should reflect the children of America.” The students in this building are a beautifully diverse population of learners. Every child deserves to see themselves in a book. Our readers crave high-interest books that serve as both mirrors and windows into the worlds of others. Unfortunately, many children struggle to share a reading experience with their classmates because of a disability or a lack of engagement.

Many children struggle to read books that are on grade-level, therefore, making it difficult to read in book clubs with peers. For a striving reader, the most important thing an educator can do is to remove all barriers to a passion for literature. Children must see this practice as a joy, and sometimes they need an alternative way to access these diverse texts.
Student engagement is the ultimate goal of high-quality instruction, and it is easier to excite striving readers with the texts and materials that they need to grow as individual learners.
My Project
The book choices of a child should not be limited by their reading level. Readers should have the freedom to share in beautiful literature with diverse characters, even if this experience requires a little creative planning! Technology is the key to leveling the playing field for every student.
ACCESS FOR ALL children is the key to cultivating engaged learners, and often requires outside-the-box solutions.
Kindle tablets will allow children to share in the same literature experience as their peers through the use of audiobooks. Readers will be able to participate in book clubs without the limitation of book selection from a particular level only. Children with reading disabilities will benefit greatly from the use of Kindle tablets, as this tool will create an opportunity to access books that may be out of reach for some learners with printed books.
