My students come from all different backgrounds. Several students have all the latest technology at their fingertips while others have to visit the public library to use a computer. Technology is a big part of our lives, and for my young students, it will be an even bigger part!
My Kindergarten students come to school each day eager to learn.
They enter a school that is much older than they are and has not been able to improve the technology as quickly as it has advanced in society. My students walk into a classroom everyday that has chalkboards on the walls, 3 old computers, and a pull down screen for projection. They share these old, and very slow, computers and have never even heard of an interactive whiteboard. My students are fortunate enough to have one Kindle Fire to share, but one device for 18 students is not very practical. The technology in my classroom, or lack thereof, just cannot keep up with my growing Kindergarten kids!
My Project
The current trend in classrooms is technology, technology, technology! For several of my students, school is their only opportunity to interact with technology; however my classroom is unable to fully provide that experience for them. Another Kindle Fire would allow all my students much more time and opportunities to interact with new technology in order to explore and learn. The possibilities of interactive learning activities on a Kindle are endless! From books, to reading and handwriting apps, to math games and maps, the students could have never ending fun... while learning!
