I teach Kindergarten at a Title I primary building, in a rural district in SW Missouri. It prides itself on academic achievement and a sense of community. My students come from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. I have 16 Kindergarten students who are very confident, eager to be involved, and want to and can accept a great deal of responsibility.
My Kinders like going places and doing things, such as working on projects, experimenting, and working with others.
My students are growing in their ability and desire to work cooperatively with others. They want to be industrious and successful. Their combination of a can-do attitude and their cooperation and responsibility make them a delight to teach and work with.
My Project
During the Summer of 2017 and Spring of 2018, I received funding for a set of 13 Kindle Fires on Donors Choose.org. We use these Kindle Fires daily during our Literacy and Math blocks! Some of our favorite apps are ABC Mouse and Teach Your Monster to Read! We love listening to stories on Epic as well. There are so many free, educational apps available on the low-cost Kindles.
My Kindergarteners LOVE our current set of Kindle Fires, and we are hoping to earn the funding for five more Kindle Fires with protective cases so that each student has their own!
This last set of Kindles will be enough for 1:1 student use so that I can differentiate lessons for each student. Our Kindle Fires are able to connect to our school's Wi-Fi. Along with educational apps, the Kindle Fires allow my students to use ALEXA to ask questions about various subject areas, which can help with the many questions Kinders have each day!
