Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Title I, K-5 magnet school that educates almost 700 students each year. The students at my school come from a wide range of family dynamics. Some live in traditional households, while others live with single parents or extended family. My students' economic situations are just as varied as their family dynamics and more than sixty percent of our school qualifies for free lunch.
A large percentage of our school population consists of English language learners.
Seventy-five percent of my class speaks more than one language and often English is not spoken when they are at home. Regardless of these factors, every one of my students always possesses a passion for learning, exploring, and creating.
My Project
In our classroom we have a variety of issues that can cause students to miss school or lose their focus because they aren't feeling well. I have several students who have asthma or suffer from allergies and these can lead to compromised immune systems causing these students to easily catch colds and viruses.
I am eager to give my students a healthy environment while growing their minds!
I am requesting a supply of Method hand soap, soap refills, antibacterial cleaner and antibacterial spray. These items will not only keep our hands clean and germ free, but will help to keep our learning environment clean and germ free as well. I am also requesting a supply of disposable gloves and band-aids. We have a playground that is mainly concrete and unfortunately cuts and bruises are a daily occurrence. A variety of band-aids will help to take care of the cuts and scrapes that don't need the nurse's attention and the disposable gloves will keep myself and my para safe while tending to our students. Students need to be in an environment where their health and wellness is one of our top priorities, so that they are available for learning.
The page protectors and card stock will be used to help to organize our classroom.
