Help me give my students the opportunity to be more creative and innovative with a STEAM approach using a large magnetic stand up center along with mathematical, magnetic games.
Have you ever had the opportunity to spend time in a kindergarten classroom? I am blessed to share my life with five-year-old kindergartners as their teacher. My students live in Pennsylvania and come from hard-working, diversified families with one common goal - to provide the opportunity for their children to receive the very best education possible.
My students are unique, eager to learn, inquisitive, and love to explore using their senses.
Each child has a distinctive personality. Some are very outgoing while others are more reserved. They are eager to learn especially when faced with a challenge. They work well in teams and with partners to overcome challenges presented. They are wonderfully imaginative and are eager to share their favorite memories and stories, which are often humorous. They learn best by playing and exploring while using their senses. They love to learn through play. When asked about their favorite part of the day they often reply with playtime. Playtime gives them the chance to explore and grow from each other’s imaginations.
My Project
Fields such as: science; technology; math; the arts; and engineering all play a crucial role in today's workforce. As teachers we must adapt our teaching to help students to be more prepared for their future careers, which will likely include these skills. We must be genuinely excited about these advancing areas. One way to share this excitement with our young learners is through a hands-on approach, STEAM. Young learners seem to pick up things very quickly, and so, for this reason, it’s never too young to start teaching students to be innovative and creative.
My classroom is in need of materials to help provide my students more opportunities to explore and investigate, bringing their learning to life.
These materials will strengthen my students' abilities to problem solve and think "outside the box." The Stand and Write Center, the magnetic coaster activity kit, and the path magnetic center will encourage this type of thinking along with provide them many opportunities to work on explorations and investigations. The math and literacy games with manipulatives including: the magnetic numbers; the Go Fishing math center; the Math Marks the Spot game; the count and links; the sight word swat; the Pop and Learn; and the phone with numbers will all reinforce necessary skills to help encourage this hands-on approach to learning. The charging station will house the current class iPads which build on this learning, as well.
