My students come with many different backgrounds and needs. Some have attended a pre-k program. Some have only stayed at home or with relatives and have never been exposed to a learning environment.
We strive to meet each child on their level and move on from there.
Some students come in with alphabetic and phonemic knowledge and some have never held a pencil or cut with scissors. We have to model and teach social skills.
They have lots of energy, and many of them struggle with sitting in traditional desks and chairs. Some need help with sensory issues. My students love to move and sing and dance. They enjoy using hands-on materials to learn and explore. My students love learning!
My Project
My students have lots of energy and love to have choices! I want to offer them different seating options in order to meet their specific learning needs.
By giving children choices, they take ownership of their learning.
It will hold them accountable as they must meet the expectations that come along with their seating choice.
Flexible seating will give them a chance to move while continuing to engage in learning. We want our students to be empowered learners while providing opportunities for them to be in a comfortable space that works for them. Every child learns in their own unique way.
