My Students
My 25 Kindergarten students attend an excellent school where more 50% of the students come from low-income households. However, each student strives to learn and succeed in school.
My students are bright, willing and excited to learn each day they walk in to the classroom.
Myself and other teachers are dedicated to the students success by ensuring our classrooms are engaging, differentiated, and safe learning environments.
Our school takes kindergarten seriously, and we are passionate about setting a solid foundation for hard-work, and the love of learning so each student can take this wonderful and meaningful experience with them to the next grade-level. These young students have amazing minds and it is my job to get them ready for the future!
My Project
My kindergarten students are learning to read. They work hard to learn the basic skills of reading by using books. They learn to hold books, learn the different parts of the book, directionality, and most importantly, identifying letters and words. Finally, using pictures to decode words and learning fluency to read! Kinders make amazing progress in one school year, but can not do it if they don't have the books to read. In order to foster this learning, I have done my best to create an inviting classroom library with a good selection of books. I am asking for a variety of reading books of beginning Lexile reading levels that my students will be excited about reading. I have chosen non-fiction level 1, Level 2 and ready-to-read books on animals, science, insects, and weather such as rainbows. All of the books I have requested will be available to my students they will be allowed to take them home. Each of the books will be labeled by Lexile reading level, making it easier for my students to select books appropriate for them.
