This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students at our school are vivacious and loving. Nearly all of them come from homes that are living below the poverty line. There is a large amount of crime in their neighborhood. We have a large percentage of homeless students at our school. All of these stressors in their lives mean that they come to school with a lot of baggage.
Many of my students are reading below grade level, and we work very hard each day to improve their reading outcomes and to help them to develop a love of reading.
My Project
I am requesting stencils to help my kindergarten students learn how to write. The story starter stencils will allow my students to trace pictures and words to help them get started with a story about different objects. The alphabet stencils will help them to begin to learn how to write their sounds. Additionally, the stencils will help them with their fine motor skills. In kindergarten, it is so important that our students begin to love writing because we want them to be able to write a short story by the end of the year. These stencils will help us begin a strong writing foundation for our students.
