Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine your first year of school. Kindergarteners walk into their classroom with exciting expressions and hearts full of joy. This is the first academic experience for many of the children at my Title I community school. Most of my students do not know how to read or write or know their numbers but are eager to do so. I am setting the foundation for many years to come. My goal is to give young learners a nurturing, caring environment while teaching them how to read, socialize, and gain the confidence to become academic leaders in the future.

My Project

Learning to read can be hard for kindergartners. We have to persevere and think like the little engine that could... I think I can, I think I can; until we know we can. My students need a variety of books that will engage them and spark their interest. Education is changing every single day, and so are the interest of my students. I have to make reading fun so that my students will develop a love for learning to read! By having a variety of different leveled readers, I can get their attention in memorable yet simple ways and teach them the foundational skills to become proficient readers.
